Tom Ehrich's idea is that God can be glimpsed in everyday
life.
In pieces of about 475 words, published six days a week, Tom
looks at small incidents of daily life, connects them to the
coming Sunday's Bible readings (current focus: the Old Testament
reading), and seeks meanings that will touch every reader's
life.
Readers find these daily postings a critical part of their
spiritual lives. Some use them as a centerpiece in morning
devotions. Several couples read them together at breakfast.
Clergy study them as part of their weekly sermon preparation.
Meditations are read at staff and lay council meetings. Many
engage the author, and other readers, in e-mail dialog about
ideas.
Tom Ehrich's first exploration of this idea appeared in book format in
1993, made available initially to a circle of friends and
parishioners.
In 1995, Tom Ehrich formed Journey Publishing Company to handle
the ongoing publication of "On a Journey," now in an upgraded
standard book format. Readership continued to expand.
In 1998, publication shifted to an e-mail format, to leverage
the ability of the Internet to deliver content in a timely and
cost efficient manner. Readership grew dramatically, soon
reaching a worldwide audience in the United States, Canada,
England, Ireland, France, Japan, Persian Gulf and Australia.
In 2004, as readership outgrew Journey's manual system of
subscription management, this new web site was launched. Subscriptions and payments now could be
handled on-line, paving the way for further expansion of
readership, addition of new products and, soon, an on-line
community of "On a Journey" readers.
